Last week we learned about Wikis in TPTE 486. Before these lessons I knew very little about Wikis. I had, of course, used Wikipedia before. Other than that, however, I did not even know such Wiki tools existed. The whole process of creating, editing, and publishing our class Wiki was surprisingly easy. I did not have any real problems with it, as it was all pretty easy to understand and figure out.
As for using Wikis in my classroom, I particularly like the ideas of creating a class encyclopedia, or going on virtual fieldtrips. My students could potentially create “About Me” pages like we did, but since I will probably be teaching lower elementary school, they will need some assistance in creating their own pages. Hopefully I will have some kind of aid in the classroom that can help the children create their page.
I think Wikis are useful tools that I will employ in my classroom more than once through the year.
